Scavenger Hunt Sunday

So I've been following the scavenger hunts on this blog for a while, and I keep saying I want to do them each week, but I never do. I get busy, the kids go crazy, life gets in the way, etc. Well I finally did it this week. They're not all that great, but that's ok.

1. Pink

My daughter loves dress up. For such a loud-mouthed, bossy, little thing, she sure does like to feel pretty too. LOL. There are shoes that go with this pink dress, but her tiny feet just aren't big enough for them yet. She had walked out of them at least 5 times by this point, and finally just sat down on the floor to pout about it. The horrible mean mommy that I am thought, "oh one of the categories for the photo hunt this week is pink. Let me get my camera."

2. Books

I don't really have an explanation for this one. They're books. Old childrens' books to be exact. I just liked the red covers and simple drawings.

3. Fall Colors

Next week would have been better timing for this category for me since our leaves have just started to turn. That's ok though, it's still pretty out there.

4. Leaf

I guess this is more "leaves" than "leaf" but close enough right? I just liked the fuzziness.

5. Orange

One of our pumpkin patch pumpkins before it got gutted and carved today.

Ahhh Balloons

We got up at 5:30 this morning... yes you read that right... to go see this:

So worth it! I think I'm going to order this photo in poster size to hang in the duo's playroom. The bright colors will go really well in there and I'm just in love with this picture.

Tonight we're going back to see them light up all the balloons on the field. Yay balloon glow!

18 months

Wow. Did you know my kids are 18 months old? Of course you did, but really, it's crazy right?! They cannot be this big.

Seriously, does he not look like he should be going off to preschool in that picture? Insane!

1 month down

I haven't updated in a few weeks, I know. I apologize to the 3 or 4 of you who actually read this blog every now and then. ;)

So, what's been going on around here, you ask? Just pretend you asked, ok? Ok.

Well first of all, my tiny babies are huge. Ok, they were already huge, but now they're ginormous. I let Riley pick out her own clothes this day, which is why she's brighter than an old school highlighter.

On the way home the night the above picture was taken, I found a field full of female elk and their calves. I was way too excited about this and pulled over to take pictures. This was my favorite of the bunch.

The table is finally finished! I didn't even have a heart attack when Riley smeared tuna fish all over it the first time we ate at it. It was a close call, but we all survived, table included.

Riley's first pigtails! Enough said.

And finally, here's a preview of the bedding I'm making for a dear friend and her baby boy. I love it so much that I'm now considering doing Nathan's big boy bedding in cowboys instead of airplanes.

My newest favorite chubster

This is best friend's baby. All nice and clean, and not fresh from the womb like the last picture you saw. Of her hair. I know. Anyway, we did her newborn photo shoot today. This is my second favorite picture from the bunch. I'd love to show you all my favorite, but the beauty of it would be lost if I had to edit out the personal info, so you get the second favorite.

I have never seen a newborn that sleeps as much as this little beauty. :)

Crazy week

I haven't updated in a week, I know. I apologize. It's been a little insane around here. I spent the week trying to make some pretty important phone calls (did you know it's nearly impossible to get through to any kind of military administrative offices during their insanely short business hours?), registering the kids for childcare on this side of town (because sometimes Mommy needs a break and can't drive 30 minutes one way for 4 hours of daycare), working on my table, playing with the duo, and birthing a baby. Well, I didn't birth a baby obviously, but I helped BFF.

Here is my beautiful dining room table, all sanded down and stained. All it needs now is a coat or two of satin wood sealer, and for me to find the time and energy to get out there and apply it.
I think this might be my favorite picture that I've taken in a very long time. There is nothing better than the look on a mom's face when she meets her child for the first time. Needless to say everyone in the room was crying at this point. This is my best friend, and her newest daughter, taken just seconds after she was born.

The table. Oh the table.

So, it took us longer than I thought to get our new dining room table all put together. First we had to get a better drill since the one we have is meant for smaller projects and the battery crapped out constantly with all the pressure we were putting on it. Then we needed new pilot bits because we broke two... yes TWO... of the ones we had. Take my word on this: do not go cheap when it comes to tools and bits. Just don't do it. You'll regret it. If you're going to do any kind of wood-working, bite the bullet before you start and get good equipment.

On top of the little things that went wrong, we just didn't have a lot of time. He was trying to get ready to deploy, I was trying to keep the kids from killing each other while helping him get ready. The only time we had to do any work on the table was after they went to bed at night. But... we finished it. Putting it together anyway. It was 11pm, the night before he left, but we finished it.

Please excuse my less-than-organized-at-the-moment garage, and be comforted by the fact that neither the duo or the dogs are allowed out here. It's a death trap, I know.

Here it is, put together, and mostly sanded. I still need to finish sanding the legs on one side, and then go over again with a finer grain. Then it needs to be stained and sealed. God knows when this thing will finally be done, but so far I love it.
